Is Google Becoming the Margarine of Evil?

Googlemargarineevillarge Do No Evil.  That is the motto at Google.  But many have questioned if this motto and attitude could last forever especially once the company became very large and needed to find ways to grow and continue to feed the beast.  I believe I accidentally discovered something last week which is Google taking a step towards evil.  A baby step maybe.   And the in the words of Dr. Evil himself makes me wonder if Google is becoming the Margarine of Evil.

Its a simple enough thing.  Essentially, if you have the Google toolbar installed it takes over your Internet search EVEN if you go into Internet explorer preferences and ask for Google to not be the default search.  Yes that's right.  It overrides a user's explicit preferences and still takes control over search.

Yeah Yeah I can hear the defense now, "hey they installed the toolbar so we just assume they always want Google search".  But the part that surprised me was that it ignores my settings inside of Internet Explorer even if I go in and change the default search provider to someone other than Google.  Yes Sergey and Larry it ignores the specific request of the user.  Evil?  Not fully.  But the margarine of evil???
