Waverunner Friday with Dieter Wolf..P0562

This last Friday Dieter and I headed out for a waverunner ride. It was cold by LA standards, about 60 degrees, and very cloudy. Dieter is a very close friend. We met when our older daughters were a few months old and they are about to turn 14. We had to stay along the coast as my Sea Doo was beeping some code P0562 the entire time so we didn't want to risk being too far offshore.

On the way back in we were lucky enough to come across a bunch of dolphins that were very close up to the beach.  Here are a few of the shots

C'mon Typepad its almost 2008

I have been using Typepad now for about 4 months.  I must say I am pretty disappointed.  Sure for posting a simple text posting its fine.  But creating photo albums, linking into them, anything to have to do with media.  It's just painful.  I could see how this was impressive in 04 or 05 but it needs an overhaul on many dimensions, especially for $15/month.

Sea Doo Saturday with Sea Lions

Friday September 21st brought some early rain to LA.  WOW, almost half an inch.  The city almost shut down!  However by about noon on Saturday the rain stopped and I did a great trip solo on my Sea Doo over to Anacappa.  I had no real camera with me but my cell phone and was able to capture this great shot of Sealions sitting on a bouy just next to the Gina Platfrom about 5 miles offshore...  To see all 5 photos click Sea Lion Photos

Sunday Cruise with the Trailblazers

This past Sunday I took my 9 year old daughter along with 7 of her friends, and their respective dads, on a cruise of the Channel Islands Harbor.  This is part of a group that we are in called Trailblazers through the Y.  These girls have been in this group since Kindergarten and the experiences we have shared, along with watching these girls grow from age 5 to age 9,has truly been memorable.

I was lucky enough to get into a group where all of the dads also get along and have a good time together and this is one of the reasons we have been able to keep this group vibrant and together for so long.  For those of you not familiar with Channels Island Harbor you can see a a satellite view of it here Channel Islands Harbor

Crunch Crunch - The TechCrunch 20/40 Conference

I was so excited to come to TechCrunch.  They claimed it would deliver today what Demo delivered back in the day.  TechCrunch was positioned to be the anti-Demo… not just about making profit for the conference owners,  and just driving size, this was going to have the folks at TechCrunch filter out the 20 best and newest companies that we have not yet seen or heard of. 

Well its almost 3p and I have been here since 9a and I am thus far under-whelmed.  I believe they had very good intentions when they first thought up this conference.  As originally envisioned it was a really good idea.

Whales in Ventura CA-I saw one on my Waverunner

Just a few days ago this 100,000 pound, 78 foot blue whale washed ashore just north of Ventura in the same area where I use my Waverunner.  I have only come across one on the Waverunner 1 time about 4 months ago.  As it came up out of the water to my left, about 50 yards away from me, before I could register what it was, my brain told me that a land mass was emerging from the water.  That's was how large it was!

New Words- Lunder Pit and Runder Pit

My kids often come up with cute new words.  My younger daughter likes it when I tickle her in the arm pits.  She wants to be able to tell me which one she wants me to tickle.  So she came up with a name for each of them.  Lunder Pit = Leftarm Underpit and Runder Pit = Rightarm Underpit.

"Daddy who in the Rolling Stones died?"

In using Rhapsody today I noticed that Luciano Pavarotti is the number 1 artist.  This reminded me of a  funny story from a few years ago.  One of my daughters is really into music and very up on the current music scene but not so much on artists of years gone by.

There were a few times over the last 2-3 years that an artist would pop up on Rhapsody in the number 1 position that she had never heard of, such as Warren Zevon.  And each time she would ask me, "who is this artist I have never heard of" I would say, "well honey they just died so everyone is interested in listening to their music"  So she assumed all the artists she never had heard of that were suddenly #1 were there because a death.

Then Rhapsody was able to cut a deal to be the first music service to launch the Rolling Stones online.  And sure enough based on that the Rolling Stones on Rhapsody shot straight to number 1.  My daughter wasn't familiar with who they are so that day she casually asked me, "Daddy who in the Rolling Stones Died".
